Easy Guacamole

Equipment

  • 1 medium or large bowl
  • 1 knife for chopping
  • 1 fork or potato masher

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe Haas avocados
  • 1 firm tomato diced
  • 1/2 small red onion, diced
  • 1 sprig fresh cilantro
  • juice of 2 limes
  • salt
  • 1 large clove Garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp cumin (optional)

Instructions

  • Cut the avocados in half lengthwise and remove the pits. With a spoon scoop out the ripe contents and place in a bowl. Mash well with a fork or potato masher until smooth.
  • Add diced tomatoes and red onion, chopped cilantro, minced garlic and lime juice, add salt to taste and mix well. If you want a bit of extra flavor you can add 1/4 teaspoon of cumin to the mix.
  • Refrigerate for at least one hour before serving with tortilla chips or a Mexican meal like enchiladas or tacos. .

Notes

Why use red onion in your guacamole? Because using red onion really helps reduce browning of the avocados! Red onions release sulfur gases when cut, these vapors create a barrier that slows down oxidation which is the chemical reaction that turns avocados brown when exposed to air. Using red onion keeps your guacamole fresher longer!
